WHAT CAUSES SCOLIOSIS?
In most of whom suffers from scoliosis, the cause is unknown. However, in cases where cause is known, doctors classify curves as :
1. Nonstructural referring to when spine is structurally normal and curve is temporary. Doctors will try to identify, and if possible, correct the cause. An example of nonstructural scoliosis is a discrepancy in limb length, treating the root cause might resolve the curve.
2. Structural is caused by a disease, injury, infection or birth defect.
There are also inherited conditions and neuromuscular diseases that causes Scoliosis, such as Cerebral palsy and Muscular Dystrophy.
Scoliosis can run in families, therefore, a child with parents or siblings with scoliosis should have regular medical screen. Scoliosis is about two times more common in girls than boys.
